INTRODUCING
Hi everyone!
We are three young ladies studying at UKC (University of Kent at Canterbury, England) who collectively go by the name of "The Weird Sisters". We like nothing better than watching films, having random philosophical discussions, eating Ben & Jerry's and/or chocolate . . . oh yeah, and howling at the moon-lit cathedral too.
Having come to the conclusion that most people don't understand our idea of fun and/or are scared of us, we've decided to give you a bit of an insight into the strange little world we inhabit so that maybe you won't be so afraid.
As a wise sage once said:
"To understand all is to forgive all"
So without further ado, we present . . . OURSELVES!
P.S If you know who we are & see us wandering around laughing our heads off, we're not (usually) drunk - we're just high on life (or amused by Ell's apparent lack of shame!)
Ell, En & Zed xxx
Profile of Ell aka Ibid
Name Ell (as in Ell to be with).
Age A lady should be discreet about such things.
My name in the Religion of The Most Holy Order Of The Divine Banana The Cath- Pulag-Formerly-Known-As-The-Prophet-Of-The-High-Priestess.
Native heath Bury St Edmunds in the fair land of Suffolk. Actually I live a few miles away but no one has heard of my village.
Family Yes. I've got a Mum and Dad (who are cool) and a brother and sister with whom I get on provided we are not in the same room. There are others but they are boring, by and large.
Countries visited France, Sweden, Finland and 5 months in Ghana (which is nowhere near Zimbabwe, has no lions and people there don't speak Swahili.)
Studying Social anthropology with a year in Finland. I am also doing an Italian module and proving adept at mispronouncing everything.
Favourite dish Boiled egg and soldiers - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Favourite book Jane Eyre (though lately I have felt Villette might be the greater book).
Other books that I like The Adrian Mole books; any Bronte novel (including Anne); Cry, the Beloved Country; the Seven Pillars of Wisdom; War and Peace (just skip the philosophy bits as they are boring); Memoirs Of a Geisha (the plot is unmitigated shite but the description is terrific); I Capture the Castle; Goodnight Mr Tom (so sweet!) and many more.
Favourite films Once Upon a Time in the West (magnificent music! Ennio Morricone should be canonised!); Life is Beautiful; The Thin Red Line. I also like Speed; Metropolis (C3PO with breasts as one review said! Fritz Lang was truly visionary!); Star Wars; Broken Blossoms; Dr Zhivago (they don't make 'em like that anymore!); Gladiator; Les Quatre Cent Coups and many others but this is too long as it is.
Enthusiasms I have which other people find odd Gazing at the moon; south west winds (they are warm and they smell nice); staring into space; skipping down Eliot footpath; the list goes on and on and on and on . . .
Favourite music I don't go for bands as such but songs I like include Tonight, Tonight (Smashing Pumpkins); Bed of Roses (Bon Jovi); Dancing Queen and Like an Angel Passing through my Room (Abba-the 2nd one is the last track off their last album 'The Visitors'. It is a quiet, dreamy & unobtrusive little piece and I have always been fond of it.); My Star (Brainstorm. Eurovision song contest fans will remember it as this year's Latvian entry. I like the fact that the words sound slightly silly as befits those written by a non-Anglophone and the voice jumps about in a semi-strangulated way. The album disappointed me by actually being rather good, certainly not up to Eurosong standards!) I also like Rachmaninov's Vespers (without which my life would not be worth living); any sung piece by John Tavener and lots more.
Reasons I hate Britney Spears
1) She is annoying.
2) No music lover could like her "music" if you can grace it with such a complimentary term.
3) I really don't care if she is a virgin or not.
4) She is annoyingly irritating. Ok I know it is the same as one but the point is worth repeating.
Reasons I hate Eminem
1) Can you really take seriously a bloke called Marshall Mathers who changes his name phonetically to that of an item of confectionary?
2) Shite music. The lyrics have a certain violent grace and power but the music cheapens it and is unlistenable.
3) I can't help but feel he is the most successful rap singer today because he is white.
4) He is a twat.
Profile Of En aka Soppygit
Name Can't you read?! I'm not telling you my real name (if you don't know it already)
D.O.B. 18th September 1981 (Virgo, with Sagittarius as my rising sign)
Banana Cult Name Juanita Chocolita
Where I'm from Mummy's tummy! No, seriously - I was born in Croydon, Surrey & come from Walton, Surrey. Surrey is where all the posh people live (allegedly).
Ancestry I'm mostly British but on my mum's side, my great-grandmother was German & there's also some Spanish & Italian blood kicking around somewhere (from the 19th century I think). My family nearly always marries foreigners.
Sex Whatever, wherever, whenever if you're gorgeous, exciting and clever! (and male - there goes the poetry….doh!)
Favourite films Strictly Ballroom is my all-time favourite - the most heart-warming, funny, feelgood film ever. Mr Jealousy because it's got Eric, romance, wit & averagely barmy Americans (who, in the film at least, get a thrill from going to therapy even though they don't really need it - bizarre).
A Very Brady Sequel - have only seen it once but I must get it on video. Even cornier & funnier than the original Brady Bunch Movie.
Billy Eliot (aka Dancer) - if you haven't seen it already, go (and) see. It's more heart-warming than chicken soup, is very funny & has a wicked soundtrack (London Calling by The Clash is played in some strike & riot scenes - cool).
I also like action films, providing they're not too violent. eg. Bond films, Rush Hour and a TV series on Channel Five (quality TV, I know) called Martial Law. Weird psychological stuff is good too, eg. Pleasantville.
Favourite TV programmes Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends, TOTP 2, soaps (because they are trashy & funny) such as Eastenders and Neighbours, and occasionally Have I Got News For You & Martial Law. I am also a former Sunset Beach addict (sad but true). If anyone remotely associated with the BBC is reading this – BRING BACK “THE FRIDAY NIGHT ARMISTICE”! What the hell where you thinking when you dropped that show?! IT WAS SO COOL. If anyone else agrees, we should start a campaign.
Favourite music Usually 70s disco, 80s cheese & catchy rock music. My taste is wide and varied (from good to shite, some might say) but if I had to choose a favourite band, it would be Crowded House. They (and The Divine Comedy) are the modern musical equivalents of Shakespeare - their lyrics are very quotable.
Favourite book Where do I start? "Like Water for Chocolate" by Laura Esquivel would have to be one of the best love stories ever written. "Patty Difusa & other writings" by Pedro Almodovar is very dirty but very funny. I've bought a million other books that sound really interesting, but I haven't had a chance to read them yet - "The Wasp Factory" & "The Bridge" both by Ian Banks, “Erewohn” by Samuel Butler and "Notes from the Underground" by Dostoyevsky.
I wanna kill M.Schumacher (evil); Brad, Leo & Britney (dense & fake)
I admire Damon Hill - my all-time hero; Neil Finn - the main Crowded House songwriter; Eric - he's fit, talented & seems nice; my German great-grandmother - she was just as crazy as I am; my mum - for her abnormally strong willpower; my granddad - he's very funny & can still speak five languages pretty fluently even though he's in his eighties.
Odd interests & enthusiasms My keen interest in mind-control techniques (you never know, they may come in useful . . . ), my red-headed guy obsession (mainly due to the gorgeous Eric Stoltz), my over-giggliness & over-soppiness, my extreme health freak tendencies, my information junkie tendencies, me owning a Right Said Fred album (well, some of their songs are cool . . .) & a jazz compilation (Nina Simone, Dinah Washington & Ella Fitzgerald are v.good), my thoroughly daft hotmail address (which includes my favourite colour, my favourite food & one of my favourite words ['love' - urgh! - [z]Ed), beautiful red telephone boxes, singing in Spanish & my fondness for these: &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& . . . [Not to mention the three dots . . . - Zed.]
Profile Of Zed aka Pelican
Name Zed

Banana Cult Name The Zed Leppelin.
Age Mentally, 5. Emotionally, 2. Physically, 14. Apparently, 20.
Date Of Birth 11th August 1981
Sex Often.
Native Heath A small town near Carlisle. Not that I expect you to know where Carlisle is either. Clue: it's about as far away from Kent as you could get, and still be in England.
Family Annoying.
Romantic Status Going out with B.
Studying My fingernails, right now. Mathematics, apparently.
Favourite Book Trainspotting.
Favourite Music Have you got all day? (Have you got all day? are a rather obscure but really good band from a small town in Norway who had one number 43 hit in 1971.) Well, not really, but I'm convinced I own more CDs than the rest of the university put together. But here's a brief list of some bands I like: Adam And The Ants, Aerosmith, Arkam Asylum, Bon Jovi, The Buzzcocks, Alice Cooper, Covenant, The Cure, Def Leppard, Depeche Mode, Fear Factory, Iron Maiden, The Kinks, Lost Prophets, Madness, Manic Street Preachers, Marilyn Manson, Mansun, Motorhead, Nine Inch Nails, Revolution By Night, Rocket From The Crypt, The Sex Pistols, Sisters Of Mercy, The Smiths, Soft Cell, The Stranglers, Suede, Swarf, System Of A Down, 3 Colours Red, U2 and VNV Nation. I'm well good at the alphabet, me!
Favourite Films Lock, Stock And 2 Smoking Barrels, Nuns On The Run, Clockwise, Monty Python And The Holy Grail, The Full Monty, Toy Story 2, The South Park Movie, Dogma (it took me three attempts before I managed to watch it without falling asleep half way through, but once I managed it, I gave it my seal of approval) and The Hole.
Favourite TV Programmes The Young Ones and The Simpsons.
Things I Hate Having to draw graphs, polystyrene and fizzy water.
Enthusiasms And Interests Other People Find Odd Capitalising words that really don't need capitalising. Lego. Mars Bars. Painting my finger nails several different colours at once. TV theme tunes and incidental music for films. Hymns. Old-fashioned telephone boxes. Spending 23 hours a day working on my website. B. (Even Ell and En struggle to understand how I can be involved with someone who wears a leather skirt and fishnets, has hair longer than mine, and is still male. This is all fine by me; it's the fact that his alter ego is a perpetually hung-over green alien who only ever says "Oh God" that gives me cause for concern.)
Have any of you ever been institutionalised?
