Hello Everyone Well, I'm here in Africa, and I thought it was time I got in touch with you all. I've been here for three weeks now, but it really doesn't feel like that! the first week was spent on Safari in Kenya. We started in Amboseli National Park, where we saw lots of elephants, zebra, wildebeest etc, then moved on to the Masai Mara, where we saw Hippos, Crocodiles, Lions, and Cheetah, and finally on to Lake Nakuru National Park, which is in the rift valley. It's very small but we were able to see rhino and flamingoes there. After the safari we had an orientation course at Lake Naivasha, also in the rift valley, in luxurious accommodation - there were hot showers! Last Saturday we arrived in Uganda, and stayed overnight at Bujugali Falls, on the Nile, near Jinja. We went to our schools on Sunday. I'm at a relatively small school, which is really nice. Everyone is very friendly and I have already begun teaching, though it seems to little effect! The girls love to be helpful about getting our water, and emptying the rubbish, which is nice. The school has no running water, but we are now used to washing out of a plastic bowl. this weekend we are all staying here in Jinja, and are very much looking forward to having a shower when we get to the campsite. Unfortunately, althought the rainy season is supposed to have ended, it never happened and is expected any time soon, so it seems that even in Africa I won't be able to escape the rain. ("Why does it always rain on me?") It is really strange getting used to being so obviously different from everybody. It was really nice, after two days at the school, to meet up with other mzungus (white people), from the other schools. I have got to know everyone pretty well now, and we often do things as a fairly big group, which is nice. Right now everyone is waiting for me to finish this letter so that we can go swimming. I will try to write a longer letter if I get the chance, but I don't know when I'll next be able to get online. I hope to hear from you soon (snail mail takes ages but is very well received!) |
Take
care,
Love Milla
