by En 1. There are LOADS of bookstores that sell really cheap books, most notably the Oxfam Charity Bookshop & The Works (a publisher's outlet). As a result, I have managed to blow much of the money I earned during the Christmas holidays on books. 2. The wonderful cathedral where our graduation will be held. It looks beautiful when lit up at night & looks great from the inside too (lots of lovely stained glass). [I'll take your word for it. Nine years after I first came to Canterbury, I still haven't managed to see its interior - (z)Ed.] And entry is free if you're a student. 3. The greenery. Lots of lovely trees and green fields to run through where you can pretend you're Julie Andrews in The Sound Of Music ("The hiiiiills are aliiiiiiive with the sound of muuuuuusiiiiiic!"). Alternatively, you can just do as me, Ell & Zed do - stand in one, howl at the cathedral and ponder life's great mysteries.

4. The seaside is fairly near to it and we are also near to the rest of Europe. We could easily travel by Eurostar from Ashford or take the ferry from Dover to Calais every weekend if we had the money for it.
5. Last but not least, Canterbury is a place with character. Everything from the quirky little shops in town to the people that I've met at university (most of them while in Rutherford Dining Hall). I think this town usually attracts nutters of the best kind, including my wonderful, lovely friends Zed and Ell. They've stuck by me through thick and thin and have certainly made my life a lot more interesting since I arrived here. To Ell & Zed - thank you for being yourselves.
